a village hidden by the shadow of the castle
(Bardi (PR - Emilia Romagna)

In fact, the village is overshadowed by the presence of its imposing castle as we have already mentioned several times (see link).
But the village also deserves special attention, both for its charm and for the other monuments
As a non-exhaustive example, we would like to mention the 'Bardi altarpiece' by Parmigianino, located in the neo-Byzantine church of Santa Maria Addolorata, the former monastery of San Francesco.

There are also numerous places of worship in the hamlets, mostly of medieval origin, which are well worth a visit.

A bit of history:
Legend has it that the village was founded by Hannibal in memory of his elephant Barrio.
However, the area was inhabited since the Paleolithic period by the Ligurians and later was subject to the Roman municipality of Veleia.
The first official evidence of the castle dates back to 898.
The feud became the property of the bishop of Piacenza, who ceded it to the nobles known as the Counts of Bardi in the first half of the 13th century.
Subject to the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines, it remained loyal to the Empire.
It was part of the province of Piacenza until 1923, when it passed to the province of Parma.
