walk to the Paderna castle
(Paderna Pontenure (PC) - Emilia Romagna)

We titled this special "walk" because we limited ourselves to walking along the moat due to the winter closure period.
Regardless of the possibility of visiting the interior of the austere fortress, we recommend walking along the perimeter to admire the remarkable aspects of the fort.
We also point out that the fortress is one of the few structures that still preserves intact the defensive moat; in fact, with the decrease of the defensive character, in many cases these moats were drained and filled with earth.

Near the castle, currently under restoration, there is the church of the Cattedra di San Pietro of the XVIII century.

A bit of history:
Probably here there was already a fortification in Roman times as mentioned in the "tabula alimentaria traianea".
The first documentary evidence dates back to 817 and 900 where it appears to belong to the cathedral of Piacenza.
After several passages of property in the eleventh century the castle and possessions passed to the monks of the monastery of San Savino in Piacenza and remained their property until the sixteenth century.
In 1216 it was destroyed by the troops of Parma and then in 1247 by the troops of Frederick II of Swabia.
By will of the abbot of San Savino in 1280 it was rebuilt and enlarged with the construction of a tower.
In 1453 it was bought by Melchiorre Marazzani from Rimini.
In the 19th century it became property of the Casali family.
Currently it hosts a flourishing farm.
