Sulacà and the reappraisal of the local products
(Vernasca (PC) – Emilia Romagna)

Wandering far and wide the Apennines on the south of the provinces of Parma and Piacenza, we discovered a place worthy of a visit.
Vezzolasca (Sulacà), a hamlet of Vernasca, at the foot of the Lucchi and Palazza mountains, is surrounded by the typical Apennines woods, habitat of the boars, where you could “meet” the edible boletus and also the truffle.
The walks in the woods along the paths will dip you in nature.

Apart from the village features and the splendid views over the woods and the hills, the place is famous for its products, most of all the potato (and the potato pie) and the typical “blond” chestnut.
Both this products are listed among the traditional Italian food products.
The potato is still cropped following the traditional methods and the fight against the vermin is hand made by the farmers.

Some note:

  • during the 3rd week-end of August there is the Potatoes Festival where is possible taste and buy the local products
  • the festival of potatoes, now in its 37th edition, will be 16-17-18 August 2013
  • The 9th festival of chestnut will be September 29, 2013
  • in the vicinity (along the road from Vezzolasca to Castelletto, shortly before Castelletto on the right through a path) we discovered the perfectly restored suggestive ruins of the ancient church of St Andrea; the only fault is that this beauty is not signalled at all
  • stop and drink the ice-cold water of the fountains along the road
