Just behind the church of San Giacomo is the imposing parish church of Santa Maria Assunta.
The exposed brick façade has three entrances.
The central entrance, in Rezzato marble, is guarded by austere lions.
But it is the polychromic interior and the valuable works preserved here that arouses the visitor's wonder.

A place not to be missed.

A bit of history:
The origin of the church dates back to the 5th century. It was rebuilt in 1150 and again in 1280.
It underwent a new reconstruction in 1580 following the provisions of the Council of Trento.
In the early 17th century it was a vicariate seat, and the parish priest was assisted by four other priests for about 2000 believers.
Damaged by an earthquake in 1802, it was restored again.
Between 1883 and 1888 the architect Carlo Maciachini realized a further extension and the dome was built, on whose spire was placed the copper statue of the Madonna made by Carlo Riva.
