a trip to the high Magra valley
(Pontremoli (MS) - Toscana)

Attracted by some images of the web, we left to go to the “piscio di Pracchiola”, a waterfall of the Magra river, next to its source.

As usual we avoided the boring motorways and took the road (SP108-SP42) through the Apennines leading to the Cirone pass: this uncontaminated road really deserves to be admired by the nature lovers.

After Bosco di Corniglio, follow the signs for La Spezia.
Stop at the Cirone pass (4118 ft above sea level) to admire the view and the suggestive little Lady church off Orsaro mount.
Resume the way among chestnut woods and streams towards the village of Pracchiola because here the path for the waterfall should start.

And here the big disappointment: “non-negotiable path – no thoroughfare”.
So we visited the nice village of Pracchiola now semi abandoned as many other Apennine hamlets.
We hope a restoration will be done.

A little frustrated we went to Pontremoli.

A note for the competent bodies:
we hope that the township of Pontremoli or the local C.A.I. section could provide for the practicability of the path also to avoid a further impoverishment of the area.

A note:
as of today, June 2022, we do not know if our suggestion has been taken.
If anyone visits the area we will appreciate hearing about it.
