Eravamo stati a Bagnone alcuni anni fa’.

in Upper Lunigiana: the village of Bagnone
(Bagnone (MS) – Toscana))

We had been to Bagnone a few years ago. We were pleasantly impressed, so we decided to return to appreciate it better.
However, given the day's temperature, we did not climb up to the upper and oldest part of the village, inhabited by Gutula, which we had already visited anyway.

A village, and the entire valley, that absolutely deserves a thorough visit.

A bit of history:
The area has been inhabited since the Stone Age.
Between the end of the 8th century and the 10th century, the territory was subject to Oberto I, a territory that, in addition to Lunigiana and Garfagnana, also extended into parts of Lombardy, Emilia, and Liguria.
Bargnone is first mentioned, when it was subject to Oberto I, in a document from 963.
Mentioned again in 1124 in a papal bull of Callixtus II.
From then until 1471 it was subject to the Malaspina family, then passing to the Florentine Republic.
Except for the Napoleonic period, it remained part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany until 1849, when it was annexed to the Grand Duchy of Parma and Piacenza.
It remained in the Grand Duchy until 1859, the year in which it was absorbed by the Kingdom of Italy.
