on the way leading to Camogli...
(Camogli (GE) – Liguria)

Typical fishing village marked by the colors of its houses clinging to the foothills of the Apennines sinking in the sea.
The sailors returning from fishing easily recognized their home by the colors and the paler characteristic horizontal lines, called “marcapiano” (stringcourse).

Certainly the winter light does not bring out these colors, but maybe visiting the village when there are not the crowds of tourists makes you better appreciate its genuine aspect.
Rich in religious, civil and military monuments, it is part of natural parks (Parco naturale regionale di Portofino and Area naturale marina protetta Portofino) and the point of departure of magnificent pathways.
Here is preserved a community site, proposed by the Ligurian Natura 2000 for its natural and geological peculiar interest.

A village and an area absolutely worth of a visit at any time.

AA short history:
Its origin dates back to prehistory.
It was a Roman settlement already in 2nd century BC.
From 1000 to 16th century it was under the control of the Visconti, and then it joined the Republic of Genoa up to the Napoleonic domination.
At the fall of Napoleon, in 1814 it was annexed to the Kingdom of Sardinia and in 1861 to the Kingdom of Italy.
