We knew the poor condition of the Charterhouse since we visited it more than 20 years ago.
On the recommendation of a friend we came back with the absurd hope of finding some improvement.

The first charterhouse was adjacent to the 16th century walls, but the Republic of Venice demolished all the building placed in this area.

The Carthusians rebuilt the abbey in a bend of the river Brenta that now the counts Passi di Preposulo are successfully destroying.

A bit of history:

After the demolition of the original abbey, between 1534 and 1560 the Carthusians rebuilt a monastery in a bend of the river Brenta: the works were assigned to two famous architects, Andrea Moroni and Andrea da Valle.
Notwithstanding its cultural relevance it hosted a limited number of monks.
In 1768 the Republic of Venice ordered its closure.
The complex was acquired by Antonio Zigno who began to deface the property.
The two World Wars completed the decay of the building.
The counts Passi di Preposulo, current owners, were not and are not able to carry out any repair.
Now the surroundings are protected by the rules of the Parco del Brenta but the Charterhouse continues on its inescapable deterioration.

A note:

Now the Charterhouse is owned by the counts Passi di Preposulo and the count Alberto Passi “boasts” the title of President of “Associazione Ville Venete”.
We send him a message: it wouldn’t be better to donate the Charterhouse to the FAI?
