Finestre hill
(Usseaux (TO) – Piemonte)

Who likes the imposing mountains should drive along the way leading from Meana di Susa to Fenestrelle.
You need a touch of spirit of adventure, and, by car or bike, a little practice: the way from Meana to the Colle is partially a dirt road, and then is a very winding tar road.
The Colle delle Finestre is inside the natural park Orsiera Rocciavrè, a wide area of the splendid Graie and Cozie Alps.
From the Colle, one of the laps of the Giro d’Italia in 2005, you could enjoy a magnificent landscape; you could admire the Rocciamelone (near Susa, one of the highest of the Graie Alps, 3,867 ft above sea level)and the Albergian mount (3,326 ft above sea level in the Chisone valley).

Some note:

  • maybe sometimes the road is closed (not only in winter) so it should be better to take some info from the local APT before beginning the tour
  • driving down the Colle you should stop at Usseaux [see] and at Fenestrelle, the fort that is the world’s second greatest building after the Great Wall of China.
  • Do not search for the route on Google Maps because it will suggest and endless trip.
