around the villa Cusani Tittoni Traversi
(Desio (MB) - Lombardia)

I went to Milan for work and on a free morning I decided to visit Villa Cusani Tittoni Traversi.

Unfortunately the villa was closed and I could admire only the exterior.

The trip was not a complete disappointment: I walked around the park still plunged in the winter sleep and I visited the interesting mineralogical museum placed in the Pelagi tower.

A bit of history:
Probably dating back to 16th century, it was the country house of the counts of Rho.
Confiscated by the Regia Camera di Milano, in 1651 it was ceded to the marquis Cusani.
A new structure was planned and the works began about in 1774.
The architect Giuseppe Piermarini completed the façade “toward Desio”.
As per testamentary dispositions, it was handed down to Tommaso Titoni, who commissioned the last works to the architect Luca Beltrami.
After World War II the villa and the park passed to a religious institution and continued its decline: in 1948 the park was dismembered and sold to private citizens so causing the cutting down of many century-old trees.
Finally in 1952 the municipality of Desio purchased the park and in 1975 the villa.
In the park there is the Torre Pelagi, dating back to 19th century and designed by the architect Pelagio Pelagi, that today hosts the mineralogical museum.
