the Disciplini oratory, a jewel inside another jewel
(Clusone (BG) – Lombardia)

Clusone, plunged into the Orobie Orientali Alps, boasts to be one of the “Italy’s most beautiful towns” and was invested with the title of “city” for the rich testimonies of its notable past.

Past still visible in its important monuments, past lost in the mists of time.

And, a jewel among other jewels, the “Disciplini oratory”.

A short history:
Medieval building (14th century), built as see of the Disciplinati order, it was enriched by the valuable frescoes by Giacomo Borlone de Buschis, a Clusone painter, in 1485.
In 1673 the confraternity built a stairway with a door on the wall with the “Triumph of Death”, partially damaging the frescoes. In 1830 the stairway was removed and at the beginning of 1900 took place the first restoration.
In the interior the splendid frescoes “Stories of Jesus” (recently restored) and on the altar the wooden sculptures “Annunciation” and “Lamentation of Christ” (1726) of the Fantoni’s workshop.
