Fidenza cathedral
(Fidenza (PR) - Emila Romagna)

Fidenza is a small town between Parma and Piacenza, along the Via Emilia.

Severely bombed by the air raids of the second world war, it was quite completely razed to the ground.
Now rebuilt, it has little appeal for an "inattentive" tourist.

Luckily the tragic war events did not touch some historical jewels still set in the modern urban fabric.

One of them, worth by itself of a careful visit, is the Romanesque cathedral.

Consecrated to San Donnino and following the legend built just where the saint fell.
The sculptures as well as the management of the works are due to Benedetto Antelami.

The most valuable part is the front, one of the finest of the Emilia Romanesque, and the suggestive crypt in the interior under the high altar.

Certainly our photographs are not among the best, due to the light shortage of the late hour and of the cloudy weather, but it could be an extra reason to admire this jewel by yourself.
