Grazzano Visconti, a perfect fake
(Vigolzone (PC) – Emilia Romagna)

At the entrance of the Nure valley, as if using the time machine, you get submerged in the past.
Grazzano Visconti appears as a village survived intact from the Middle Ages, but it is only a beautiful perfect fake.
In fact, apart from the castle, the only ancient building is the little church of Sant’Anna (17th century).
Walking around its streets, with workshops and typical gourmet shops, means admiring a rare example of neo-Gothic and Renaissance architecture, in vogue in Italy between 1800 and 1900.

Part Italian garden and part English landscape garden, the great park of the castle (about 15 hectares) can be visited from Spring to Autumn with guided tours.
Also the collection of old farm implements is worth of attention and is organized in the “corte vecchia”, the ancient farmyard.
Here a remark: the farm implements and the signs seem to be neglected.

The village offers opportunities all years round, but the best seasons are the Spring and the Autumn when the main costume parades take place.

A short history:
The castle was built by Giovanni Anguissola in 1395, maybe on a pre-existing structure. In 1870 Filippo Anguissola died without an heir and the castle was taken over by the Visconti di Modrone.
At the beginning of twentieth century Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone restored the castle and made the present village to be built.
