LUCUS FERONIAE
(Capena loc. Scorano (RM) - Lazio)

On Saturday 9th and on Sunday 10th we went to visit the Lucus Feroniae, the sacred area of the Sabine goddess Feronia, patroness of the firstlings, of the harvest and of the transformation of the wastes into tilled land.

Lucus Feroniae, placed near the Tiber river port overlooking that of the Sabina Cures, from the ancient times has always been an important religious centre and a market place for the inhabitants of the area crossed by the medium course of the Tiber (Etrurians, Fallisci, Latins, Sabines).

Together with Draco and with one of my sisters we were privileged to see the marvels of this small archaeological area swathed in greenery.
For example we could mention the smallest amphitheatre of Europe or the majestic temple of the goddess Feronia, the excavations of which are still going.

The guides were very helpful and kind.
They came with us along the way, explaining with mastery the life in the forum, from the political, religious and business aspects.

Unfortunately the Lucus Feroniae is likely to be closed for lack of visitors and so its archaeological heritage could sink into oblivion together with a part of our history!!!

Also the green unspoilt area is a treasure which has to be protected, so we ask you to go and visit the place of worship of Feronia, the Sabine mysterious goddess.

The entrance is free and there is also a museum with the statues and the remains discovered during the excavations.

Several Draco’s photographs are listed below.. with them I hope to excite your curiosity and interest.
