10^ Haflinger foals National Meeting in Merano
(Merano (BZ) – Trentino Alto Adige)

50 young stallions coming from all Italian territory presented for the evaluation.
Breeders and lovers from all over Europe met in Merano once more for the 10. Haflinger Foals National Meeting that took place from 6th to 8th October at the Equestrian Centre. 50 young stallions coming from all Italian territory have been presented for the evaluation.
The race inspectors Dott. Gerhard Rainer, Dott. Andrea Sgambati e Giuseppe Zamboni had to evaluate the competing horses for the categories: typical features, harmony of the shape, limbs and perpendicularity, gait and impulse, to select the future breeding stallions. Due to the importance of the judgement the race inspectors took their time for every single evaluation. The measuring stage was followed by the presentation in the triangle and then by the free reins presentation. The 1st class qualified stallions have been presented once more the second day of the meeting for the final evaluation.
Data and facts confirm the positive result.
The Haflinger Foals National Meeting reached this year its 10th edition.
During the time it grew in importance for the European Haflinger breeders and became a crowd-pulling event for the breeders as well as for the potential purchasers. This Meeting guarantees an impartial judgement: all the candidates are presented and evaluated in the same place at the same conditions.
Every year an average of 50 stallions are presented; among them the 15% are qualified in the first class, one half in the 2nd A class and the rest is eliminated.
Also the 2006 Meeting is on average: among the 53 enrolled stallions, only 49 have been presented; 11 of them have been registered on the 1st class, 22 on the 2nd A class and 4 have been sent back for health reasons. The rest of the candidates did not attain the minimum score to be recorded on the genealogic registry.
Altogether it has been a good year under the quality point of view. The stallions are generally well developed, without remarkable lack of colour and are slightly built. Regarding the quality and quantity level the blood line A is superior to the other lines. Another reason to continue in promoting the feeble lines through breeding plans.
The side event attracts a various public.
From the beginning the Meeting has been accompanied by interesting side events to draw the attention not only of the sector operators. This year the Meeting was combined with the traditional autumn gallop races that excited a great interest among the public. The foreign visitors were especially amazed at the speed of the Haflinger from Alto-Adige.
Also the Member of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, responsible for the Agriculture, Dott. Hans Berger, assisted at the Meeting and defined the Haflinger horse a versatile and first-rate product of the Alto Adige. He declared: "The sporting line related to the horse for leisure time is the right one".
The President of the Provincial Federation of the Haflinger Horses Breeders of the Alto Adige, Walter Oberhofer, asserted that the location is ideal for the Breeders Meeting and announced the "Europe Show" that will take place in June 2007 at the Equestrian Centre in Merano Maia Bassa.
Congratulations to the breeders and to the organizers were expressed by Konrad Grunberger, the President of the National Federation, and by Alf-Eckbert Fossel, responsible for the horse breeding at the European Commission in Brussels.

“Euro Haflinger 2007” introduction and European Federation Meeting

Since the establishment of the European Federation of the Breeders of the Haflinger Horses, the largest events regarding breeding scheduled in Alto Adige were an excellent opportunity for international meetings, occasions to exchange experiences and to harmonize the European standards of breeding. In few years ( the establishment dates back to 2003) the Federation succeeded in approaching the breeding countries, so benefiting the direct breeders.
The Foals National Meeting was also an excellent stage to introduce the "Euro Haflinger 2007" the European Show taking place from 7th to 10th of June 2007 in Merano. The President of the European Federation Prof. Gianmaria Giraudini and the President of the Provincial Federation of the Haflinger Horses Breeders of the Alto Adige Walter Oberhofer explained the project underlining the peculiarities of the show. For the first time an International show will take place in the area of the breeding of the Haflinger horses; during the show the horses will be submitted to a morphologic evaluation and to aptitude tests.
The expectations for the Show are great and many Countries have already confirmed their participation.
