This time our friend Stefania sent us some images of Mondovì.
The town stands on a hill towering above the Po valley, and behind there are the Maritime Alps that separate it from the Liguria.
The Mondovì hill marks the limit with the Langhe, the region of the rare truffle and of the fine wines.
The distinctive feature of the town is the subdivision in more levels: the original center, the “Piazza” district, is on the hill (about 590 m above sea level), the “Breo”, “Pian della Valle, “Carassone”, “Borgato” an “Rinchiuso” districts lay along the Ellero torrent, while the last one, the Altopiano district, is the more recent and is a residential quarter.
The town is rich in monuments and events; we mention only the international meeting of the balloons which takes place on the Epiphany day.

A suggestion: it’s worth travelling on the funicular starting from the station and arriving at the Piazza quarter to admire a wonderful panorama

The history of this town is too complicated to be summarized in few lines; we only hint that it was founded in 1198.
