Un po’ di storia:
per parlare della sua storia non basterebbero diverse pagina, quindi ci limitiamo all’essenziale.
Le prime tracce della presenza umana nel territorio risalgono al neolitico.
Si ipotizza che sia stata fondata dagli etruschi tra il VII e il VI secolo a.C.
Subì la dominazione romana.
Fu longobarda e poi soggetta ai franchi.
Dal XII secolo, dopo varie vicissitudini, ritornò libero comune.
A metà del 1500 il Papa creò il Ducato di Parma affidandolo al figlio illegittimo Pier Luigi Farnese.
Come molte altre città italiane fu saccheggiata e spogliata di diverse opere d’arte dai francesi di Napoleone.
Dal 1847 al 1859 fu soggetta ai Borboni.
Nel 1860 a seguito di plebiscito venne annessa al Regno d’Italia.
Per la sua attività durante la II° guerra mondiale è tra le città decorate al Valor Militare per la Guerra di Liberazione e insignita della Medaglia d'Oro al Valor Militare.

A bit of history:
sweveral pages wouldn't be enough to talk about its history, so we'll limit ourselves to the essentials.
The first traces of human presence in the area date back to the Neolithic.
It is thought to have been founded by the Etruscans between the 7th and 6th centuries BC.
It underwent Roman domination.
It was Lombard and then subject to the Franks.
From the 12th century, after various vicissitudes, it returned to being a free municipality.
In the mid-1500s the Pope created the Duchy of Parma, entrusting it to his illegitimate son Pier Luigi Farnese.
Like many other Italian cities, it was sacked and stripped of many works of art by Napoleon's French.
From 1847 to 1859 it was subject to the Bourbons.
In 1860, following a plebiscite, it was annexed to the Kingdom of Italy.
For its activities during World War II, it was among the cities decorated for Military Valor for the War of Liberation and awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valor.
