a day between art and nature
(Soarza (PC) – Emilia Romagna)

a day between art and nature
(Soarza (PC) – Emilia Romagna)

We returned to the tiny village of Soarza, a hamlet of Villanova sull'Arda, primarily to visit the exhibition set up on the top floor of the Costa Picasso building.
After visiting the interesting exhibition, we crossed the town until we reached the point where the Po, in those days, had extended its waters well beyond its banks.

A bit of history:
Probably of Roman origin, of particular importance for its port on the great river and its mills which represented a notable economic source of trade.
First mentioned in 990 among the localities owned by the monastery of San Silvestro di Nonantola.
In 1600 the fiefdom of Soarza and other nearby locations were owned by the Genoese Costa family.
The law of 09.26.1798, division into districts and districts of the departments of Olona, Alto Po, Serio and Mincio, determined that Soarza was a municipality of the district of Pieve d'Olmi until the decree of 06.8.1805 in which it was excluded.
The fiefdom of Soarza strengthened and developed over the years; most of the farmhouses and estates were built and modernized between the 19th and 20th centuries by the new Genoese owners, Picasso Ratto.
Of particular interest is that the built-up areas have remained virtually unchanged since the 19th century.
