We made a short excursion into the upper Tidone Valley, stopping mainly in two charming villages: Caminata and Nibbiano.
However, we must point out that the entire valley and its villages deserve a careful visit; we recommend the 'Tidone path', which leads from the Po to the source of the Tidone on Mount Penice.

Here we visit the village of Caminata with its original stone houses.

A bit of history:
Val Tidone
Inhabited since prehistoric times, some settlements dating back to the 5th and 3rd millennium BC have been found.
Like many other Apennine valleys, later it was inhabited by the Romans.
Around the year 1000, in the valley several castles were built, scene of bitter battles between Guelphs and Ghibellines in the following centuries,
With the Treaty of Aachen in 1748, the lower part of the valley was subject to the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza and the upper part to the Savoy state.
In 1860, it was definitively annexed to the Savoy kingdom.
The history of Caminata evidently follows the history of the valley.
