The valley begins around Vipiteno and wedges for about 23 ml in the Zillertal Alps (Western Tauern) up to the Vizze pass (7,373 ft above sea level), border with Austria.
It is dominated by the top of Gran Pilastro 11,513 ft above sea level, while in the middle of the valley there is an interesting protected natural area "the biotype swamp lake of Vizze".
