A bit of history:
here we talk only about the Dominican monastery, for other issues see the first part of the special.
The construction in Renaissance style began in 1494 by Gianfrancesco I Pallavicino’s will and ended in 1510.
Enlarged by the Dominicans in 18th century, it was enriched by a neoclassic façade.
Alienated in 1769 it was restored by the friars in 1777 and finally lost in 1805 due to the Napoleonic decrees.
Partially demolished (the church no longer exists), in 1882 the duchess Maria Luigia transformed it in a hospital.
It was acquired in 1972 by the Township which decided to grant the building for the realization of two museums.
Some notes on the museums:
Museo “Il Cinematografo”:
It shows 600 pieces of history of the pre-cinema and of the cinema collected by Luciano Narducci.
The visit is placed in a splendid hallway and in 10 rooms.
Open on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 15:00 to 18:30.

Museo della civiltà contadina “Giuseppe Riccardi”:
Very interesting museum which takes back in time, from half ‘800s to ‘900s.
The history is told through the objects that today many adults and all the children do not recognize.
We have been lucky to visit this museum because a very kind curator at the museum “Il cinematografo” accompanied us: in our knowledge the museum “Giuseppe Riccardi” opens only on Sunday from 15:00 to 18:00.
For further info try to call the City Administration.
A short note:
The entrance to the museums is free or at free offer: maybe it would be better to require a minimum entrance fee at least to reward the volunteers.
