We went to visit Casali a tiny Apennine hamlet.
As with most similar villages, the beauty lies not only in the charm of the hamlet, but also in the beauty of the access roads.
There is still an old mill in the vicinity of the village, and some characteristic farmsteads with wooden structures and walls.

We recommend visiting such hamlets only if you can appreciate the small testimonies of the area, which indicate the human presence over the centuries, the beauty of the woods, at this time rich in primroses, orchids and roses, and the gentleness of the hills.

A bit of history:
Traces of human presence have been found as early as the Bronze Age.
There are remains of Ligurians structures existing prior to the Roman conquest dating back to 3rd century BC.
There is no documentation of the history of the village until modern times.
The first documents certifying the presence of Casali and its inhabitants date back to the 16th century.
Legend has it that the village was created by three brigand brothers from Bologna.
Thanks to the construction of the road connecting the Duchy of Parma with Genoa, the isolation of the village was interrupted.
Over time, the village grew to around 600 inhabitants, becoming the third largest agglomeration in the area.
At the beginning of the 20th century depopulation began, due to migration, first to the USA and then to France and England.

A note:
near the village is the Lago dei Lupi (Wolves' Lake), which originates from the spring of the same name.
Nearby was a bottling plant for low-mineral water that opened in March 2008 and closed in 2011.
